This policy explains how lacianpanton.com uses cookies and similar browser-storage technologies. In Jersey, cookie use involving personal information falls within the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.
I use the smallest practical set of cookies needed for the website, security, your preferences, understanding how the site is used, and selected interactive features.
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small piece of information stored by your browser. Websites use cookies to keep a session working, keep you signed in, remember preferences or support particular features.
My site also uses similar browser storage for a small number of preferences and session-only experience settings. From your point of view they do a similar job, so they are covered here too.
2. The choices you get
When cookie choices are needed, you will be offered three clear options:
- ALLOW EXTRAS — allow the optional categories described below;
- ESSENTIALS ONLY — use only what is necessary for the site to work; or
- CHOOSE WHAT STAYS — decide category by category.
No optional category is switched on by default, and simply continuing to browse is not treated as permission. You can change your mind at any time through THE FINE PRINT → CHANGE MY CRUMBS, and withdrawing permission is as easy as giving it.
3. The categories
Essential
These keep the site working: security, sign-in, private access, session continuity and other functions that cannot reasonably work without them. They are always on.
Experience
These remember choices that make the site feel coherent, such as your sound preference or carrying context from one part of the journey into another.
Analytics
I use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site, which pages and experiences are useful, and how the site performs. Google Analytics only runs after you allow the Analytics category. Analytics permission is not permission for advertising.
Google Analytics sets its own cookies and identifiers to distinguish visits and sessions. If you turn Analytics off, collection stops and the analytics cookies my site can reach are removed. Your browser controls can remove anything left behind.
Experiments
These support optional interactive experiments, including the anonymous state used to keep experiment usage fair.
4. Advertising
I do not use advertising or behavioural ad-targeting cookies on this website. If that ever changes, this policy and the cookie choices will be updated before such technology is enabled.
5. Fonts
The typefaces used on this site are served from my own website, so your browser does not need to request them from an external font service.
6. Your browser controls
Your browser can also block or delete cookies and site storage. Blocking essential sign-in or session storage may stop portal or private areas from working correctly, so my own cookie preferences are the gentler way to change optional choices.
7. Updates
Cookies and their purposes can change when the website changes. I review this policy and the cookie choices when the technologies I use materially change.
